There's been a whirlwind of activity over at Genesis Coffee Roasters lately...and boy, oh boy, it's been one heck of an exciting ride!

If you've been following our journey, you'll know that we've been hustling non-stop since last October to transition from our cozy garage setup to a full-blown commercial space. And guess what? September marks the beginning of a whole new chapter for us...we've officially been given the green light to fire up our shiny new roastery! Cue the confetti cannons because we are absolutely buzzing with excitement!

Upgrading from our trusty 1kg roaster, Uno, to a whopping 15kg roaster is like trading in your bicycle for a Ferrari! Picture this: while Uno could roast 7.2 lbs. in an hour, our new beast can roast a whopping 28lbs in just 18 minutes. Talk about a game-changer! Aside from saving my sanity – no more endless roast cycles, hallelujah! – this upgrade means we can kick off our fundraising program in style, offer lightning-fast turnaround times to our beloved wholesale partners, and even bring more cafes and restaurants into the fold (feel free to share any locations that need great coffee).

Japan Coffee Roasters

Venturing across the seas to Japan this summer was a dream come true for us coffee enthusiasts. Our trip was a caffeine-fueled adventure, hopping from one charming cafe to another, and we stumbled upon some real gems. Highlights include the quirky School Bus café (their pastries are to die for!), and the delightful Coffee Shop and Coffee Roasters Garakuta in Kyoto. At Garakuta, we witnessed the magic of air roasting firsthand as we selected our beans and watched them come to life right before our eyes. The Myanmar single origin stole our hearts – it's a flavor explosion in a cup, and let's just say our bag of it is now looking rather petite. Ah, the bittersweet reality of coffee love!

Coffee culture in Japan is a whole different ball game, as you'd expect. Forget on-the-go cups – here, coffee is meant to be savored in the moment. And they don't believe in over the top sweet coffee. We loved the subtle sweetness of their flavored lattes. Everything is prepared fresh to order, usually through the meticulous art of pour-over brewing, which truly accentuates the nuances of the beans. As a roaster, this was music to my ears!

Thanks a latte for tuning in, friends. This blog post is just the beginning of our caffeinated chronicles. I promise to keep things short and sweet, sharing snippets from our newsletters and beyond. Your support, your passion for great coffee, and the close-knit community we're building mean the world to us. Here's to a spectacular September – until next time, coffee friends!

Cheers ☕️
